Do these scenarios sound familiar?
I enjoy helping people navigate their workplace journey more smoothly.
Not every issue of job dissatisfaction stems from the organization. Some issues are due to an individuals' lack of self-awareness and poor emotional self-management skills, which can exacerbate workplace challenges.
Here are some real-life scenarios I've assisted with.
If you identify with any of these, I can help you.
Louisa
Louisa had been with her company for four years when a new department head reshuffled the roles and responsibilities. Feeling excluded, Louisa became anxious about preserving her role. The new head advised her to be more flexible and forge stronger relationships with her colleagues.
After this incident, Louisa was hesitant to point out work management gaps, fearing she might appear petty. This was despite the fact she’d recently received positive feedback on her teamwork and collaboration.
Through our coaching sessions using the Navigating Challenging Dialogue® Worksheets, Louisa has learned to separate her fears from the facts and it has enhanced her and her department's success.
Carmen
Carmen accepted a supervisor position confident she could handle the work. However, she hadn't considered the unique challenge of managing a team of professionals. The pressure of decision-making and conflict resolution overwhelmed her.
When Carmen reached out to me, she felt isolated, defeated, and misunderstood by her team. We worked on her insecurities and missing management skills. Carmen is now building her confidence and leadership presence to succeed in her role.
Eduardo
Eduardo, promoted to a senior leadership position, mistakenly believed he always needed to be the smartest person in the room. His unwillingness to accept feedback soon led his talented team members to seek other opportunities.
Through our work, Eduardo understood that a leader doesn't need to have all the answers. He began using coaching tools and asking for feedback, and was able to shift his reputation from “a micromanager” to “a leader who engages and develops his team”.
Alex
Alex was repeatedly overlooked for promotion despite their work successes and a long history with the company. They asked to work with me to identify changes that would help them progress on the leadership track.
In our coaching sessions, Alex and I explored the leadership qualities valued by the organization and those valued by Alex. Alex realized it was time to find a leadership team whose values better aligned with their own values. After some research, Alex found a position in another organization with a more aligned leadership team, leading to greater job satisfaction and recognition.
Jessica
Jessica, as an Executive Director, struggled with a 55-hour work week. Her commitment to weekly one-on-one meetings with her senior leadership team and an "open-door" policy left her little time for her own projects. We worked on prioritization and found that not everyone needed equal time, depending on their position and experience.
Jessica transitioned from handling every emergency to empowering her team to take action within certain limits. She now works around 45 hours a week and successfully dedicates time to her own projects and strategic thinking.
