The image of perfection....
The image of perfection changes the way we dream. While reading The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz this line jumped off the page and landed squarely in my consciousness. Ruiz tells us that we learn to deny and reject ourselves. And as humans, exercise a very high level of self abuse because we hold onto and value our image of what is perfect. We are never thin enough, smart enough, rich enough, compassionate enough, talented enough and on and on. While we are so busy striving for perfection and beating and literally abusing ourselves for not achieving it, we are truly limiting our dreams. We are missing that in this minute, we are enough...just as we are.
I have learned (and am still learning) that in this very moment, who I am is enough. And that when I stifle my dream by comparing myself to some preconceived or external image of perfection, I limit possibility. I risk missing the magical, yet unimaginable outcome that is waiting for the unique, vulnerable and imperfect me to appear.
